The author discusses mathematical questions related to the more precise definition of the classical description (in linear approximation) for the complete acoustic field of a concentrated source of sound in a homogeneous Maxwellian gas near the source. In the framework of the familiar approach to studying the linear acoustic processes in gases on the base of solving the linearized Boltzmann equation and its model variants using the properties of solutions, the author analyzes the possibility of utilizing the ideas and methods of potential theory to study the initial approximation to a solution to the Cauchy problem for the linearized Boltzmann equation. The main result of the article is a special form of the representation of solutions to the linearized ``distorted'' Boltzmann equation in the approximation of the first summator invariant. The author notes that this special form of the representation of solutions (in the configuration space in the form of a Peierls-like potential of the linear theory of transport of noninteracting particles) is adapted more adequately than the available representations for the acoustic field near the source of sound and can be regarded as a ground for the systematic study of the problem. The article is beset by misprints. The reviewer found 7 blurring misprints in the English translation of the article. All of them have the character of author's oversight and don't demand any corrections of results, proofs, and discussions given the article.
