Let \(G(C)\) be a complex simple Lie group with Lie algebra \({\mathcal G}\). Then the quaternionic real form \(G_0\) of \(G(C)\) is the connected component of the identity element of the group \(\{g\in G(C)/ \tau g= hgh^{-1}\}\), where \(h\) is the nontrivial element in the center of \(SU_2 (\widetilde \alpha)\) and \(\tau\) is the complex conjugate on \({\mathcal G}\) with respect to the compact real form \({\mathcal G}_c\). Let \(G\) be the double cover of \(G_0\) with the maximal compact subgroup \(K=SU_2(\widetilde\alpha)\times M\). If \(G\) is a quaternionic simple Lie group and \(H\) is a compact Lie group then \(G \times H\) is called the quaternionic Lie group. \(G'\) is a quaternionic Lie subgroup of \(G\) containing \(SU_2(\widetilde\alpha)\). Gross and Wallach determined the unitarizability of the Harish Chandra module \(\sigma(G, W(k))\) for all simple quaternionic Lie groups. Also they showed that the \(K\)-types of the continuations of the quaternionic discrete series of a quaternionic Lie group \(G\) are associated with projective orbits \(O\) of certain subgroups in \(G(C)\). In this paper the author proves a significant theorem cited as Theorem 3.4.1. This theorem shows that a unitary quaternionic representation of \(G\) decomposes discretely into quaternionic representations when restricted to \(G'\). It also shows that the spectrum of the restriction is determined by the cokernels of homomorphisms of finite dimensional representations of the compact group \(M\cap G'\). Using this the author shows that the irreducible components of the restriction to \(G'\) of such a representation are closely related with the intersection of the Zariski closure of \(O\) with hyperplanes. The author applies this to the minimal representation of the exceptional groups of real rank 4 and investigates the correspondences of certain compact dual pairs. Thus Theorem 3.4.1 provides an alternative approach to the method of solving compact dual pairs correspondences. The author also obtains in a similar fashion analogous results on the restriction of the holomorphic representations to holomorphic subgroups in Section 7 of the paper.
