    Let \(\mathcal H\) be a Hilbert space, \(H_0\) a self-adjoint operator in \(\mathcal H\) and \(R_0(z),\) Im\(z\not=0\) its resolvent; \(H_0\) is assumed to have only absolutely continuous spectrum with \(\sigma_{ac}(H_0)= \mathbb R.\) Let \(\mathcal H_s\) be the \(H_0\)-scale of Hilbert spaces.The operator \(R_0(z)\) is regarded as an element of \(\mathcal L(\mathcal H ,\mathcal H) \cap \mathcal L(\mathcal H_s,\mathcal H_{s+2} ).\) For \(T \in \mathcal L (\mathcal H_2, \mathcal H_{-2} )\) and Im\(z\not= 0,\) define \[ R_T(z)=R_0(z) - R_0(z)(1+ TW(z))^{-1} T R_0(z), \] where \(W(z)= (z-i) R_0 (z) R_0(i).\) Assumptions on \(T\) are such that there exists a unique self-adjoint operator \(H_T\) whose resolvent is \(R_T (z)\) [see \textit{S. T. Kuroda} and \textit{H. Nagatani}, Oper. Theory Adv. Appl. 108, 99--105 (1999; Zbl 0976.47009)]. Let \(\mathcal R= \text{range}\;T.\) The author considers the case dim \(\mathcal R =N,\) and obtains conditions which imply that \(\lambda \in \mathbb R\) is also an eigenvalue for \(H_T.\) He investigates the wave operators \(W_{\pm} (H_0, H_T )\) and shows that they exist and are asymptotically complete. The particular case \(N=1\) is considered at the end of the paper and is illustrated by two concrete examples.
