The author is concerned with the numerical stability of qualocation methods (quadrature modified collocation methods) for elliptic boundary integral equations. He extends some results of \textit{I. H. Sloan} and \textit{W. Wendland} [Numer. Math. 79, No. 3, 451--483 (1998; Zbl 0908.65104)] and formulates a conjecture which is supported by numerical experiments.
