The main object under consideration in the present paper is a muliple Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem for Carathéodory functions: given \(n\) distinct points \(z_j\) in the unit disk find criteria for the existence of a Carathéodory function \(f\) such that \[ f^{(s)}(z_j)=s! w_{js}, \qquad s=0,1,\ldots, l_j-1, \quad j=1,2,\ldots,n. \] The authors show that the solvability of the problem is equivalent to non- negativity of a certain matrix (generalized Schwarz-Pick matrix), constructed from the interpolation data, and its positivity is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of infinitely many solutions. The authors also describe the set of all solutions in the indeterminate case by means of the corresponding linear fractional transformation. The key tool is the theory of orthogonal rational functions.
