In a Banach space \(X\) with \(D\subset X\), an initial value problem of the following form is considered \[ y^{'}(t)=f(t,y(t),y(\eta(t))),\;\;t\in[0,T],\;\;f:[0,T]\times D\times D\rightarrow X \] \[ y(t)=\Phi(t),\;\;t\in[-\tau,0]\leqno(*) \] where \(-\tau\leq\eta(t)\leq t\), \(\Phi:[-\tau,0]\). In order to approximate the solution of the above problem the authors propose to use a multistep method \[ \sum_{i=0}^k\alpha_i(y_{n+i}-h\beta_if(t_{n+i},y_{n+i},y^h(\eta(t_{n+i}))))=0, \] with \(t_s=sh,\;\;h>0\), where \(y^h\) is obtained by interpolation with knots in the interval \([-\tau,t_{n+k}]\). With the main help of the function \[ G(\lambda)=\| u_1-u_2-\lambda(f(t,u_1,v)-f(t,u_2,v))\| ,\;\;\lambda\in{\mathbb R} \] various classes of the problem \((*)\) are defined, and the authors give various stability results in such a classes. The paper contains results of numerical experiments.
