The authors introduce an error estimator (local refinement indicator) associated with the dual-mixed hybrid formulation. For this estimator they prove reliability and efficiency properties. It is useful in an adaptive algorithm for effective automatic mesh generation. Its efficiency and reliability as well as the performance of the proposed adaptive refinement strategy are illustrated on some model problems, both in the incompressible and the compressible regime.
