Let \(H\) be a finite dimensional Hopf algebra over a field, and let \(C\) be a left \(H\)-comodule coalgebra. Let \(C\times H\) be the associated smash coproduct and let \(\overline C=C/C(H^*)^+\) be the quotient coalgebra. The authors prove that if \(C/\overline C\) is a cosemisiple coextension and \(C\) is an injective right \(\overline C\)-comodule, then the coalgebras \(C\), \(\overline C\) and \(C\times H\) have the same global dimension. Some applications to Hopf-Galois coextensions are given.
