Let S be a generalized quadrangle of finite order (s,s) with a regular line L. A generalized quadrangle \(S_ L\) of order \((s+1,s-1)\) may be constructed by deleting the lines which intersect L and by replacing the points on L by ''hyperbolic points'', see \textit{S. E. Payne} and \textit{J. A. Thas} [''Finite generalized quadrangles'' (1984; Zbl 0551.05027), p. 38], \textit{S. E. Payne} [Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 103, 251-270 (1985; Zbl 0582.51003)]. Denote by Q(4,q) the points and lines on a non-singular quadric of index 2 in PG(4,q). The author characterizes the generalized quadrangles \(Q(4,q)_ L\) for odd q in terms of ''normal ovoids''. In the proof she constructs the (0,2)-sets which are needed for the characterization of Q(4,q) given by the author and \textit{J. A. Thas} in J. Geom. 28, 57-79 (1987; Zbl 0609.51013).
