The subject of the paper is a new procedure for constrained pole- placement. A noniterative way to determine a state feedback controller which places the closed-loop poles within a circle in the complex plane is presented. The solution is obtained via linear quadratic design for a transformed system. The state feedback controller for the transformer system is then transformed back into the original variables. The transient properties of the closed-loop system are determined by selecting a circle in the left half plane. The proposed method combines the advantages of both pole-placement and linear quadratic design, and it contains no iterations. The paper is well organized and written and can be considered to be of a very good quality in its topic area.
