The authors consider a one-dimensional convection-diffusion equation with initial and boundary conditions. For this problem a Galerkin method is applied. Here they use the one-dimensional rational basis functions developed in their earlier works. The most important aspect is the fact that these basis functions simulate the effect of upwinding because they are naturally biased in the upstream direction. For time variable they use an explicit difference scheme. The consistency, stability and convergence of the rational difference scheme are investigated. Some numerical results are also exposed.
