The theorem that a nonsingular matrix A is a strict band matrix if and only if \(A^{-1}\) is semiseparative was proven by the first author [Integral Equations Oper. Theory 10, 82-95 (1987; Zbl 0628.65019)]. Now another proof is given which enables to determine the blocks of \(A^{- 1}\) by recurrence relations constructively.
