In an earlier paper [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 291, 765-787 (1985; Zbl 0581.16008)] the author considered *-differential identities in prime rings, these being generalized polynomial identities in which an involution and a number of derivations can be applied to the variables. This extended to rings with involution the notion of a differential identity due to \textit{V. K. Kharchenko} [Algebra Logika 17, 220-238 (1978; Zbl 0423.16011)]. In a second paper [Isr. J. Math. 56, 231-246 (1986; Zbl 0624.16006)] the author considered minimal differential identities in prime rings. This paper is the natural successor to the author's two papers cited above and considers those *-differential identities of prime rings which are, in a sense, minimal. The definition of minimality used is too technical to explain here but requires that at least one derivation appears. It is shown that for `large' prime rings of infinite or odd characteristic there are essentially only two minimal *- differential identities.
