Given two smooth projective varieties \(X\) and \(Y\) over a field, \(X\) is said to motivate \(Y\) if the motive of \(Y\) is contained in the tensor category generated by \(X\). The author notes that if the Hodge (generalized Hodge, Lefschetz standard) conjecture holds for \(X\) and all its self-products, then it holds for any variety motivated by \(X\). Thereafter he shows that the moduli space of stable parabolic bundles over a curve is motivated by the curve, the Hilbert scheme of points over a surface is motivated by the surface, and likewise for the moduli space of stable vector bundles over an abelian or \(K3\) surface. Thus he proves the conjectures for these varieties by a unified method.
