Local algebras of a Jordan system have played an important role in the development of the structure theory of Jordan systems. On the other hand, ad-nilpotent elements of index at most 3 are very important in the Lie inner ideal structure of associative rings. In this paper the authors show how to attach a Jordan algebra \(L_x\) to any Jordan element \(x\) (\(x\) is an ad-nilpotent element of index at most 3) of a Lie algebra \(L\) over a ring of scalars of characteristic \(\neq 2,3\). These Jordan algebras \(L_x\) have a behavior similar to that of the local algebras of a Jordan system. Jordan algebras of certain types of simple Lie algebras arising from associative algebras are considered. These algebras inherit simplicity and allow the authors to prove that a Jordan element \(x\) of a nondegenerate Lie algebra \(L\) over a field \(K\), char \(K = 0\) or char \(K>7\), belongs to the socle if and only if \(L_x\) has finite capacity. If \(L\) is equal to the socle, any Jordan element is von Neumann regular.
