    Let \(M\) and \(N\) be closed oriented manifolds. The author studies the set \(D(M,N)\) of mapping degrees of all maps \(f : M \to N\). The following results are proved. Theorem 1. Suppose that \(M\) and \(N\) are simply connected smooth closed 5-manifolds whose second homology group is torsion free, and let \(\beta_2(M)\) and \(\beta_2(N)\) be their second Betti numbers. Then \(D(M,N) = \{0\}\) if \(\beta_2(N) > \beta_2(M)\); \(D(M,N) = \mathbb Z\) if \(M=N \# L\); \(D(M,N) = 2 \mathbb Z\) otherwise. Theorem 2. If \((p,q)=1\) and \(p\) is odd then \(D(M_q,M_p) = p\mathbb Z\).
