\textit{R. Yoneda} [Arch. Math. 78, No. 4, 310--317 (2002; Zbl 1038.47020)] described the self-maps of the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\) which give bounded composition operators on the weighted Bloch space \(B_{\log}\), and those which give compact composition operators on the same space. A partial result (Proposition 3, p. 315) is given in that paper on the characterization of the composition operators that map \(B_{\log}\) into \(\text{BMOA}_{\log}\) (these spaces are defined in the review cited above). The paper under review gives a complete answer to this problem. For each \(p>0\) the space \(Q^p_{\log}\) consists of those holomorphic functions \(f\) on \(\mathbb{D}\) for which \[ \sup_{I\subset\partial\mathbb{D}} | I| ^{-p}\left(\log\frac{2}{| I| }\right)^2\int_{S(I)}| f'(z)| ^2 \left(\log\frac{1}{| z| }\right)^p \,dm(z) \] is finite (\(S(I)\) denotes the Carleson square based on the arc \(I\) and \(m\) is the normalized area measure). This is a Banach space for a suitably defined norm. Given a self map \(\varphi\) of \(\mathbb{D}\) and \(p>0\), the author gives conditions which decide whether composition with \(\varphi\) is a bounded (Theorem 1.1) or a compact (Theorem 1.2) operator from \(B_{\log}\) into \(Q^p_{\log}\). These conditions are of the same type as that appearing in Yoneda's Proposition 3, and the space \(Q^1_{\text{log}}\) coincides with \(\text{BMOA}_{\log}\), so the particular case \(p=1\) of these results can be considered a natural solution for the problem suggested by Yoneda's partial result.
