The author shows that the map corresponding to each isometric immersion problem actually contains three families of immersions into different space forms and pseudo-Riemannian space forms, for values of parameter along the nonzero real, imanginary and unitary numbers, respectively (Theorem 3.2). In Theorem 7.1 it is described how to construct special pluriharmonic maps whose extended families satisfy an extra reality condition when restricted to a certain totally real submanifold. They are constructed from real analytic curved flats into a different symmetric space. The main purpose of Section 8.2 is to recharacterise the identification problem which totally geodesic submanifolds with flat normal bundle of the sphere and hyperbolic space belong to the families defined by \textit{D. Ferus} and \textit{F. Pedit} [Math. Ann. 305, No. 2, 329--342 (1996; Zbl 0866.53046)], in terms of pluriharmonic maps.
