Motivated by the volume conjecture for the ``quantum hyperbolic invariant'' \(\langle K \rangle_N\) of a knot \(K\) (the hyperbolic specification of the colored Jones polynomial, defined as \[ \langle K \rangle_N = \lim_{h \to 2\pi i/N}J'_N(K;h), \] where \(J'_N(K;h)\) denotes the \(N\)th colored Jones polynomial divided by that of the unknot), for the case of torus knots a geometrical interpretation is given for the terms in the asymptotic expansion of \(\langle K \rangle_N\) at large positive integers \(N\) which involves the Chern-Simon invariant of a knot exterior as well as the non-abelian Reidemeister torsion of a knot (in consistency with the ``asymptotic expansion conjecture''); so, before deducing the asymptotic formula which is the main result of the present paper, these invariants are considered in detail for the case of torus knots.
