The title and abstract of the paper are slightly misleading. The paper does not study small-world networks but rather a scalar differential equation for \(V\), the ``total influenced volume'', which models the collective dynamics in small-world networks. The authors include a delay into the argument \(V\) of the right-hand-side (which is autonomous and quadratic in \(V\)). When the delay increases, the authors find a Hopf bifurcation and derive the usual formulas for the stability and the period of the emerging periodic orbits.
