Polar actions on Hermitian and quaternion-Kähler symmetric spaces (Q2467196): Difference between revisions

Polar actions on symmetric spaces have recently been classified by \textit{A. Kollross} [J. Differ. Geom. 77, No. 3, 425--482 (2007; Zbl 1139.53025)] proving that they are hyperpolar if the spaces are of higher rank. The present paper contributes to the understanding of the geometry of the actions in question and their sections, by employing a momentum map. The main result provides a reduction theorem and several corollaries for complex integrable polar actions of a compact connected Lie group on Hermitian symmetric spaces of compact type. In the case of a quaternionic-Kähler symmetric space of compact type (a Wolf space) it is shown that polar actions are quaternion-coisotropic, a counterpart of a result valid in the complex setting [\textit{F. Podestà} and \textit{G. Thorbergsson}, Trans. Am. Math Soc. 354, No. 5, 1759--1781 (2002; Zbl 0997.53053)].
