Multivariate functions are approximated by mappings defined on an integer grid in \(n\) dimensions. The approach is constructive and certain hyperplanes are defined which are embedded in \(\mathbb Z^{n+1}\). The method is useful in computer imaging, where digital curves and digital surfaces for instance are required. The approximation properties of the scheme are studied in theorems giving error estimates and in examples.
