In the first part of the paper, the authors consider the delay differential equation \[ {dx\over dt}= f(x(t), x(t-\tau))\tag{\(*\)} \] with \(x\in\mathbb{R}^n\) and \(0<\tau\ll 1\). Under the hypotheses (i) \(f(x,y)\) is \(C^\infty\) in \(x\) and \(y\), (ii) \(\dot x= f(x,x)\) has a hyperbolic limit cycle, the authors prove that \((*)\) has a periodic solution for sufficiently small \(\tau\). The proof is based on the existence of an inertial manifold for \((*)\). In the second part of the paper, the partial differential delay equation \[ {\partial u\over\partial t}= {\partial^2u\over\partial x^2}- au+ b(1-u) u(t-\tau,x)\tag{\(**\)} \] is considered. The authors study the existence of a travelling wave \(u= u(x+ ct)\) for \((**)\). They prove that for \(c\geq 2\sqrt{b-a}\), \(b> a> 0\), \(0<\tau\ll 1\) equation \((**)\) has a travelling wave connecting the equilibria \(u_0= 0\) and \(u_1= (b-a)/b\).
