\textit{W. Makuchowski} [Bull. Pol. Acad. Sci., Math. 47, No. 2, 119--126 (1999; Zbl 0929.54012)] has proved that if \(X\) is a Hausdorff compact space, then local connectedness and local arcwise connectedness of the hyperspace \(C(X)\) of all subcontinua of \(X\) and of the hyperspace \(2^X\) of all non-empty closed subsets of \(X\) are equivalent at any point. It was proved by him [ibid. 48, No. 1, 29--33 (2000; Zbl 0972.54021)] that for metric spaces, the above properties are equivalent to local \(k\)-connectedness. In this long paper, the authors study the above equivalences for the hyperspaces \(C_n(X)\) of all members of \(2^X\) that have not more than \(n\) components, \(C_\infty(X)\) of all members of \(2^X\) that have finitely many components, \(F_n(X)\) of all members of \(2^X\) that have not more than \(n\) points and \(F_\infty(X)\) of all members of \(2^X\) that consist of finitely many points.
