The paper investigates a predator-prey system with generalized Holling response function of type III, whose denominator is a quadratic polynomial. The system has essentially four parameters, but most of the bifurcation results are presented only in a twodimensional parameter plane. After studying the number, stability, and position of possible equilibria, the authors discuss thoroughly Bogdanov-Takens bifurcations of codimension 2 and 3, and Hopf bifurcations of codimension 1 and 2, the latter being analyzed by the method of Lyapunov constants. These local investigations are then combined to a conjectured global bifurcation diagram in a threedimensional parameter space, and, finally, numerical bifurcation diagrams in various parameter planes and some typical phase portraits are calculated.
