The authors establish a convergence estimate for a Petrov-Galerkin algebraic multigrid method, in which the prolongations are defined using the concept of smoothed aggregation and the restrictions are simple aggregation operators. It is done by showing that these methods can be interpreted as Ritz-Galerkin methods using modified transfer and smoothing operators.
