A result of \textit{W. Philipp} [Acta Arith. 26, 241--251 (1975; Zbl 0263.10020)] states that the discrepancy of the sequence \((n_kx)_{k\in\mathbb N}\) mod 1 satisfies a law of the iterated logarithm \(x\)-a.s. if \((n_k)_{k\in\mathbb N}\) satisfies a lacunarity condition \(n_{k+1}/n_k>q\) for some \(q>1\). It is known that the lacunarity condition cannot be omitted. The authors define densities by the number of elements of the sequence in intervals \([2^k,2^{k+1})\) and give LIL-type upper bounds for the discrepancy weighted with these densities which in the case of lacunary sequences are the LIL-bound obtained by Philipp, thus extending this result to certain subexponentially growing sequences.
