The authors start by defining the knit product of any two groups \(A,K\) using the two actions \((k,a)\mapsto k^a\in K\), \((k,a)\mapsto k\cdot a\in A\). Applying Lemma 3.16 in [\textit{M. G. Brin}, Commun. Algebra 33, No. 2, 393-424 (2005; Zbl 1078.20062)] they give a presentation for the knit product of finite cyclic groups in terms of the generators and relators of these groups. An example of an infinite knit product is given by taking \(A\) an infinite group and \(K=\mathbb{Z}_p\), where \(p\) is a prime. The authors then define the second homology group (Schur multiplier) of the knit product of two finite cyclic groups. The definition of efficiency on groups is then given and a result about the efficiency for the knit product of finite cyclic groups is obtained; from this result follows immediately the presentation \((x,y;\;x^2,\;y^m,\;(yx)^2)\) of the dihedral group \(D_m\) and this presentation is efficient for \(D_m\) if \(m\) is an even integer \(\geq 4\). Finally, the authors consider the knit product of a free group of rank \(n\) by infinite cyclic group. Studying this example they obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for this knit product to be subgroup separable.
