Interlacing properties of the zeros of some linear combinations of orthogonal polynomials are studied. The authors consider the following sequences \(R_n=L_n^{\alpha}+b_n L_n^{\alpha +1}\) and \(S_n=L_n^{\alpha}+d_n L_{n-1}^{\alpha +1},\) where \(\{L_n^{\alpha}\}\) is the sequence of Laguerre polynomials, which are orthogonal with respect to the weight function \(e^{-x }x^{\alpha}\), (\(\alpha>-1\)) on the interval \((0,+\infty)\). They obtain conditions on the coefficients \(b_n\) (respectively \(d_n\)) such that \(R_n\) and \(R_{n+1}\) (respectively \(S_n\) and \(S_{n+1}\)) have interlacing zeros. Moreover, a similar result is obtained for Jacobi polynomials.
