The paper uses a technique introduced by \textit{A. Guessab, O. Nouisser} and \textit{G. Schmeisser} [J. Comput.\ Appl.\ Math.\ 196, No.~1, 162--179 (2006; Zbl 1104.65011)] to derive new \(C^1\)-cubic differential and discrete quasi-interpolants on a type-2 triangulation. It is proved that these quasi-interpolation splines achieve the optimal approximation order four. Numerical tests with Franke's function illustrate the good performance of the new differential quasi-interpolant.
