A uninorm \(U\) is an associative, commutative and increasing binary operation on the interval \([0,1]\) with a neutral element. RU-operations are residuals of uninorms, i.e., functions based on the functional \(I_U(x,y)=\sup\{t\in[0,1]\mid U(x,t)\leq y\}\). If \(I_U\) is a fuzzy implication in the sense of Fodor and Roubens, then it is called RU-implication. The authors present a characterization for the class of RU-implications derived from a left-continuous uninorm. It generalizes the well-known axiomatic characterization of R-implications obtained from triangular norms. A characterization for the particular cases when \(U\) is representable, when \(U\) is continuous in \(]0,1[^2\), or when \(U\) is idempotent, are also given.
