The authors investigate some loss of intrinsic coherence in the theory of quantum isometry group recently formulated in the Connes framework of noncommutative differential geometry. More precisely, by considering spectral triples on \(S^2_{\mu,c}\), (\(c>0\)) constructed by \textit{P. S. Chakraborty} and \textit{A. Pal} [Commun. Math. Phys. 240, No.~3, 447--456 (2003; Zbl 1043.46048)], they show that, in general, the quantum group of volume and orientation preserving isometries, in the sense of \textit{J. Bhowmick} and \textit{D. Goswami} [J. Funct. Anal. 257, No.~8, 2530--2572 (2009; Zbl 1180.58005)], for a spectral triple of compact type may not have a \(C^*\)-action, and moreover, it can fail to be a matrix quantum group. They also prove that the category with objects consisting of those volume and orientation preserving quantum isometries which induce \(C^*\)-action on the \(C^*\) algebra underlying the given spectral triple may not have a universal object. (The authors emphasize that in this way they answer in the negative a question raised by S. Wang.) Remark. See reviews for companion papers made by the reviewer of this paper: \textit{T. Banica} and \textit{D. Goswami} [Commun. Math. Phys. 298 No.~2, 343--356 (2010; Zbl 1204.58004)]; \textit{J. Bhowmick} and \textit{D. Goswami} [loc. cit.].
