The author shows that a large class of matrix group actions (including joint similarity and congruence-like actions, as well as actions of the type of matrix equivalence) have a local Lipschitz property and (under additional hypotheses) a global Lipschitz property. The main result is applied to obtain a local Lipschitz property of canonical bases of selfadjoint matrices with respect to an indefinite inner product.
