New HKT manifolds arising from quaternionic representations (Q2430656): Difference between revisions

A hyper-Hermitian structure on a \(4n\)-dimensional manifold \(M\) is given by a hypercomplex structure \(\{ J_ \alpha \}\), \(\alpha = 1,2,3\), and a Riemannian metric \(g\) compatible with \(J_{\alpha}\), for any \(\alpha\). The hyper-Hermitian manifold \((M, \{ J_ \alpha \}, g)\) is called hyper-Kähler with torsion (shortly HKT) if there exists a hyper-Hermitian connection \(\nabla^B\) whose torsion tensor \(c\) is a \(3\)-form. An HKT structure is called strong or weak according to whether the \(3\)-form \(c\) is closed or not. In four dimensions, any hyper-Hermitian structure is HKT, but in higher dimensions this is no longer true (see [\textit{M. L. Barberis, I. G. Dotti} and \textit{M. Verbitsky}, Math. Res. Lett. 16, No.~2--3, 331--347 (2006; Zbl 1178.32014); \textit{A. Fino} and \textit{Grantcharov}, Adv. Math. 189, No.~2, 439--450 (2004; Zbl 1114.53043)]). In the present paper, the authors give a procedure for constructing an \(8n\)-dimensional HKT Lie algebra starting from a \(4n\)-dimensional one by using a quaternionic representation of the latter. The construction preserves the strong (respectively, weak, hyper-Kähler, balanced) condition. As an application, they obtain new compact strong HKT manifolds and a new compact HKT manifold with holonomy contained in \(SL(n, H)\) which is not a nilmanifold. They also show that every Kähler Lie algebra equipped with a flat, torsion-free complex connection gives rise to an HKT Lie algebra, and they apply this method to two distinguished \(4\)-dimensional Kähler Lie algebras, thereby obtaining two conformally balanced HKT metrics in dimension \(8\).
