Broken Lefschetz fibrations were introduced by \textit{D. Auroux, S. K. Donaldson} and \textit{L. Katzarkov} [Geom. Topol. 9, 1043--1114 (2005; Zbl 1077.53069)] as a generalization of Lefschetz fibrations, in order to describe near-symplectic \(4\)-manifolds. They proved that a \(4\)-manifold is near-symplectic if and only if it admits a broken Lefschetz pencil structure with certain conditions. It is now known that every closed connected oriented smooth \(4\)-manifold admits a simplified broken Lefschetz fibration (one round singularity and all critical points on the higher side) structure by the works of \textit{R. I. Baykur} [Int. Math. Res. Not. IMRN 2008, Art. ID rnn 101, 15 p. (2008; Zbl 1179.57033)], \textit{Y. Lekili} [Geom. Topol. 13, No.~1, 277--318 (2009; Zbl 1164.57006)] and \textit{S. Akbulut} and \textit{Ç. Karakurt} [J. Gökova Geom. Topol. GGT 2, 83--106 (2008; Zbl 1209.57015)]. By studying the monodromy representations of higher sides of genus-\(1\) simplified broken Lefschetz fibrations via a graphical method, called the chart description, diffeomorphism types of such fibrations with connected fibers and with less than six Lefschetz type singularities are classified. Along the way, examples of families of simplified broken Lefschetz fibrations of genus one are obtained, and it is conjectured that they contain all such fibrations. Diffeomorphism types of total spaces of these spaces are determined by using Kirby calculus. | |||
