The authors study the two-weight problem for some classical operators of harmonic analysis in the setting of variable exponent Lebesgue spaces \(L^{p(\cdot)}(J),\) where \(J\) may be a finite interval, the half-axis \(\mathbb{R}_+\), or the whole axis \(\mathbb{R}\). They obtain a Sawyer-type criterion for the fractional maximal operator \[ M_\alpha^{(J)}f(x)=\sup\limits_{I\ni x \atop I\subset J}\frac{1}{|I|^{1-\alpha}}\int\limits_I |f(y)|\, dy, \quad x\in J, \quad 0\leq \alpha <1, \] over a finite interval \(J\) under the log-Hölder condition on \(p(\cdot)\) and also for an infinite interval supposing additionally that \(p(\cdot)\) is constant beyond a ball of a large radius. Under the same assumptions on \(p(\cdot)\), they also prove some other type of two-weight criterions for the Hilbert transform \[ \mathcal{H}f(x)=\int_0^\infty \frac{f(t)\, dt}{x-t}, \] the maximal function \[ \mathcal{M}_\alpha^{(J)}f(x)=\sup\limits_{I\ni x }\frac{1}{|I|}\int\limits_I |f(y)|\, dy, \] and the Hardy operators \[ H f(x)= \int\limits_0^x f(t)\,dt, \quad H^\prime f(x)= \int\limits_x^\infty f(t)\,dt. \] on \(\mathbb{R}_+.\)
