The study of Leavitt path algebras is an active, recent research area in associative ring theory. The main result in this paper is the computation of the center of the simple Leavitt path algebras. It is proved that the center is either the base field or 0 depending on the existence of the identity element. The case of exchange Leavitt algebras is also investigated.
