The author establishes a connection between the number of interior and left peaks of a permutation \(\pi \in S_n\), respectively, and the coefficients of the derivative polynomials \[ \begin{aligned} \frac{d^n}{dx}(y) &= \sum_{k=0}^{\lfloor\frac{n-1}{2}\rfloor} W_{n,k}y^{n-2k-1}z^{2k+2},\\ \frac{d^n}{dx}(z) &= \sum_{k=0}^{\lfloor\frac{n}{2}\rfloor} W^{l}_{n,k}y^{n-2k}z^{2k+1} \end{aligned} \] where \(y=\tan(x)\) and \(z=\sec(x)\). Based on this, the generation functions for the peak statistics are studied.
