This paper deals with the study of extremals for certain \(L^p\) norm inequalities, whose form is determined by the influence of curvature and singularities. The authors are concerned with two properties of extremizers: smoothness, and some improved decay. These are established for all critical points of the associated functional, which is defined by means of the convolution operator. The extremizers and the optimal constant remain unknown, and it remains unknown whether extremizers are unique modulo natural symmetries. The proof of the main result is done by exploiting a generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, and certain weighted norm inequalities. The authors also formulate a conjecture concerning the precise decay rate of nonnegative extremizers.
