Let \(A\) be a group acting via automorphisms on a group \(G\), and let \(\Omega\) be the set of orbits in this action. Then \(C=C_G(A)\) acts on \(\Omega\) in a natural manner, and using this action, some divisibility information about \(|\Omega|\) is deduced. It is Theorem A that is the main theorem of this paper, namely: Theorem A. Let \(A\) act on \(G\) and suppose that the set of \(A\)-orbits on \(G\) is finite. Consider \(N:=C\cap[G,A]\). Then \(\#C/N\) is finite and that number \(\#C/N\) divides the cardinality of the set of \(A\)-orbits on \(G\). As a corollary it is mentioned here, that (but not published by the author earlier in time): Let \(G\) be finite, assume \(\#\)(conjugacy classes of \(G\)) is coprime to \(|Z(G):(Z(G)\cap G')|\). Then \(Z(G)\leq G'\) holds. This result was also proved by \textit{G. Chen} [Arch. Math. 94, No. 5, 419-422 (2010; Zbl 1198.20007)] by character theory and by \textit{M. Deaconescu} and \textit{G. L. Walls} [Arch. Math. 92, No. 3, 200-205 (2009; Zbl 1179.20020)]. A nice consequence of Theorem A, shown in this paper under review, is: Suppose \(\#\)(conjugacy classes of \(G\)) is a prime number \(p\) where \(G\) is an arbitrary group. Then either \(Z(G)\leq G'\) or else \(\#G=p\) holds.
