The authors prove that for any \(k\in \mathbb N\), every regular star compact space with a \(k\)-in-countable base is metrizable. They also give a partial answer to the question ``Is every compact space with a \(2\)-in-finite weak base metrizable?'' by proving that every compact Hausdorff space \(X\) of size \(< b\) and with a \(2\)-in-finite weak base \(\mathfrak{B}\) consisting of sequentially closed subsets of \(X\) is metrizable. Moreover, the authors prove that if \(X\) is weakly countably tight (or a \(k\)-space) with a \(k\)-in-countable base \(\mathfrak{B}\) for some \(k\in \mathbb N\), then \(X\) is strongly monotonically monolithic. Hence they consistently answer the question of \textit{V. V. Tkachuk} in [Topology Appl. 156, No. 4, 840--846 (2009; Zbl 1165.54009)] negatively, which asks ``Does every strongly monotonically monolithic space have a point-countable base?''
