Poisson boundary of \(GL_d (\mathbb Q)\) (Q1758926): Difference between revisions

The authors identify the Poisson boundary for a random walk supported on \(GL_d(\mathbb{Q}_p)\), the general linear group over the rational numbers, as the product of flag manifolds over fields of \(p\)-adic numbers. The only assumption made on the probability measure governing the random walk is some moment condition, but no irreducibility hypothesis is made. The main step in the proof of this result is to produce, using Oseledet's multiplicative ergodic theorem, a law of large numbers for random walks on \(GL_d(\mathbb{Q}_p)\). The result in this paper improves previous results of the authors as well as results of Ledrappier and of Kaimanovich.
