On stably free modules over affine algebras (Q1927934): Difference between revisions

In the main result of this paper, the authors give an answer to Suslin's question. They show the following: Let \(R\) be a \(d\)-dimensional normal affine algebra over an algebraically closed field \(k\) such that \(\mathrm{gcd}(d-1)!\), \(\mathrm{char}(k)=1\). If \(d=3\), suppose moreover that \(R\) is smooth. Then every free \(R\)-module \(P\) of rank \(d-1\) is free. They observe that the question whether every projective module of rank \(d-1\) over an algebra of dimension \(d\) over an algebraically closed field \(k\) is cancellative is still open.
