It is known that the Levy-Khintchine formula for the characteristic function of an infinitely divisible distribution on a totally disconnected topological group does not contain second-order compensation terms; (see [\textit{K. R. Parthasarathy}, Probability measures on metric spaces. Probability and Mathematical Statistics. New York-London: Academic Press (1967; Zbl 0153.19101)]). The author considers the additive group \(K^n\), where \(K\) is a non-Archimedean local field, and proves another version of the Levy-Khintchine representation where second-order terms are present. This is used to define some distributions having certain common features with the classical Gaussian and Poisson distributions.
