Symmetric functions satisfying the difference equation \[ A(x)\Delta\nabla\phi_n + (A(-x)-A(x))\Delta\phi_n + (\lambda_nC(x)+D(x)+ +\sigma_nE(x))\phi_n = 0 \] are considered, where \(\Delta\nabla = \Delta-\nabla\), \(\Delta f(x)=\nabla f(x+1)= f(x+1)-f(x)\), \(\nabla f(x) = f(x)-f(x-1)\), \[ \sigma_n = {{1-(-1)^n}\over {2}} \] and \(\lambda_n\) is a sequence of constants. Further, symmetric polynomial solutions showing the three term recurrence \[ \phi_{n+1}(x) = x\phi_n(x) - \gamma_n\phi_{n-1}(x);\;\phi_0(x)\equiv 1,\;\phi_1(x) = x, \] are considered.
