For associative algebras, the theory of radicals is well known and important, see [\textit{N. J. Divinsky}, Rings and radicals. London: George Allen and Unwin Ltd. (1965; Zbl 0138.26303)]. The Frattini theory for finite dimensional algebras is also advanced, see [\textit{D. A. Towers}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 27, 440--462 (1973; Zbl 0267.17004)]. The authors develop both for Banach Lie algebras. The theory of radicals is the theory of ideal maps. Important to the theory of radicals are the cases when the radical is 0 and when the whole algebra is radical. Both are investigated. The Frattini radical is defined and studied. The main development in the Frattini theory is for algebras with many closed subalgebras of finite codimension. In particular, structural properties are found for the algebras for which the intersection of the maximal such subalgebras is 0. There are many other interesting results in this long paper.
