Operator decomposable probability measures generalize the notion of (semi-)stable and self-decomposable measures on locally compact groups and in particular on vector spaces. In the paper under review, multiply decomposable measures on locally compact groups are studied. It turns out that deeper results can be obtained only for contractible groups, i.e., groups with a contracting automorphism. Besides several general results in this setting, the authors also study the cases of homogeneous groups and of contractible totally disconnected groups in some detail. In particular, for measures, which can be embedded into continuous convolution semigroups, connections to the Levy-Khintchine formula and earlier results of Maejima, Sato, Watanabe, and Shah are studied.
