Ramanujan in his notebooks and lost notebook wrote several modular equations of degree five and associated theta function identities. He did not provide any proof for them. It is conjectured that he first had the theta function identities and then from them had the modular equations. All the modular equations of degree 5, given by Ramanujan, were proved by Berndt. His (Berndt) proofs were based on the knowledge of the modular equations. In this paper the authors first give proofs for associated identities and then using these identities give alternative proofs for Ramanujan's modular equations of degree 5.
