Open Gromov-Witten invariants algebraically count holomorphic maps from Riemann surfaces with boundary to a Kähler manifold \(X\), with the boundary getting mapped to a Lagrangian submanifold \(L\) of \(X\). In contrast to closed invariants, a general theory (or even a rigorous definition) of open invariants is lacking at the moment, but they can be defined and computed in special cases. The authors consider one such case, where \(X\) is a smooth semi-projective toric Calabi-Yau \(3\)-fold, and \(L\) is an A-brane in it of the type introduced by \textit{M. Aganagic} et al. [Z. Nat.forsch., A: Phys. Sci. 57, No. 1--2, 1--28 (2002; Zbl 1203.81153)]. The main result is a general proof of the Aganagic--Vafa mirror conjecture relating the generating function of the disk invariants of \((X,L)\) to the Abel--Jacobi map of the mirror curve of \(X\). Previously, the conjecture was verified only for special choices of \(X\) and \(L\), and the authors follow the approach of Graber--Zaslow who treated \(X=K_{\mathbb{P}^2}\). When \(L\) is a union of outer branes in \(X\), that is, branes intersecting fixed loci corresponding to the outer edges of its toric diagram, a definition of open invariants was given earlier in [\textit{J. Li} et al., Geom. Topol. 13, No. 1, 527--621 (2009; Zbl 1184.14084)] using relative invariants of an auxilliary formal toric Calabi-Yau \(3\)-fold. In this paper the authors obtain a formula that expresses them in terms of descendant Gromov-Witten invariants of \(X\). This formula also makes sense for the case when \(L\) is a single inner Aganagic-Vafa A-brane, thus allowing to prove the mirror conjecture for both types of branes. However, the paper only treats the invariants of non-trivial classes, leaving out contributions of the constant maps.
