Let \(R\) be a 2-torsion free, semiprime ring with involution \(^*\), \(F,d\in\text{End}(R,+)\), and \(\alpha,\beta\colon R\to R\) surjective ring homomorphisms. Assume that for all \(x,y\in R\), \(d(xyx)=d(x)\alpha(y^*x^*)+\beta(x)d(y)\alpha(x^*)+\beta(xy)d(x)\). The main result of the authors is that when for all \(x,y\in R\), \(F(xyx)=F(x)\alpha(y^*x^*)+\beta(x)d(y)\alpha(x^*)+\beta(xy)d(x)\) then \(F(x^2)=F(x)\alpha(x^*)+\beta(x)d(x)\).
